How this page is maintained
- Steps and copy are checked against the current tool behavior.
- Browser limits, file-size constraints, or compatibility gaps are documented when relevant.
- Unless a page explicitly says otherwise, files and text stay in the browser during processing.
When You Need a Receipt Fast
A freelancer or contractor issuing a small receipt should not need a monthly accounting subscription. Our Receipt Maker removes the friction, allowing you to instantly generate a clean, highly professional proof-of-purchase without creating an account or managing bloated templates.
Subtotals, Tax, and Totals
Enter one row per item. Simply input your line items and quantities. The localized calculation engine handles the complex math instantly, applying your custom regional tax rates, generating precise subtotals, and tracking the grand total dynamically. Modify the currency code to any global ISO standard (e.g., EUR, GBP, JPY) to support international clients seamlessly.
PNG or PDF Export
- The Quick Image (PNG): Click export to immediately generate a crisp, localized image file. Perfect for rapidly dropping into a client Slack channel or attaching to an informal email thread.
- The Formal Document (PDF): The tool uses the browser JavaScript library pdf-lib to create a PDF from the receipt details. The receipt content is not included in site analytics events.
How to Build a Printable Receipt With Line Items and Tax
Fill in the merchant block first, then add one row per item. Each row takes a description, a price and a quantity, and the add row button appends another line. Tax is a single percentage for the whole receipt, the currency field accepts an ISO code such as USD, EUR or GBP, and the notes field prints as a footer.
The arithmetic is deliberately visible. The subtotal is the sum of quantity multiplied by price across every row, the tax amount is the subtotal multiplied by the rate and divided by 100, and the total is the subtotal plus the tax. Rows recalculate as you type, and the subtotal, tax and total are shown in the panel next to the tax field.
Worked example. Start from the receipt that is already on screen, with two rows:
- Service Fee, quantity 1, price 49.00
- Add-on, quantity 1, price 15.00
The subtotal is 64.00. At the default rate of 8.5 percent the tax amount is 64.00 multiplied by 8.5 divided by 100, which is 5.44, and the total is 69.44. Now change the Add-on quantity from 1 to 3. That row becomes 45.00, the subtotal rises to 94.00, tax becomes 7.99, and the total reads 101.99.
Exporting offers two formats. The PNG button renders a 480 pixel wide image whose height grows with the content: 260 pixels, plus 34 pixels per item, plus 60 pixels for the notes block, so the default two row receipt comes out 388 pixels tall. The PDF button builds a single 480 by 700 point page using the standard Helvetica fonts and downloads as receipt-<timestamp>.pdf, while the PNG follows the same naming with a .png ending. Long descriptions wrap instead of being clipped, at 26 characters per line in the PNG and 30 in the PDF, and a wrapped row simply takes more vertical space.
A few limits are worth planning around. There is no discount or shipping field, so adjust the affected item price rather than adding a separate line. The tax input accepts values between 0 and 80. And because the PDF is a single fixed page, a receipt with dozens of items can run past the bottom of it, whereas the PNG canvas keeps growing to fit.
A longer walkthrough of the same workflow sits in the guide to creating printable receipts in your browser, and small businesses can follow the receipt maker notes for a shop. If you are splitting a bill before typing it in, the tip calculator works out the per person share first.
